Loop back to Switzerland

It’s been a busy couple of days - driving a lot.  Yesterday we gathered our things and left Munich around 9:45 am.  I had to drive the car out of a garage under the street without hitting any pedestrians on the way.  We got under way and the weather was not very good at all - just lots of rain, but off and on.  A few downpours and lots of sprinkles.

As we approached Mannheim, we turned down a road south and the line of trucks had to be 10 km long - I’m not exaggerating!

And we crossed the Rhine River, again.

We got to our place in Haßloch, Germany, on the west side of the Rhine and crashed for a bit.  But this is near the place where Gerard’s ancestors came from, so we had to go there and we ended up having dinner there too.

On the way to Schifferstadt, we went on this street:

Hmm - do you think the Kraemers are from here?  Gasse on the end of the word means “alley”.

And here we enter Schifferstadt.  I think Gerard almost wet his pants.

A few shots in the town.  The church his ancestors probably went to, a beautiful house and a weird kind of fountain.

We had a very nice meal of Weinerschnitzel in a nice restaurant here, then made our way back to our AirBnB for the night.

This morning, we got on the road by 9:40, but had to stop at McDonald’s for a coffee first.  Not bad - I have to say.  But for $3.00 Cdn for a small, it better be!  By the way, this is the beast we’ve been driving.  Gets us where we want to go!

We were actually somewhat early getting to our BnB for the next couple of nights here in Hergiswil, Switzerland, very close to Lucerne.  So we went off to have some lunch along Lake Lucerne.  Beautiful spot.

A couple pictures from where we were sitting.

And this one is looking up the lake with Lucerne at the end of it.

At the front door of our BnB, you can just see near the top of Mt. Pilatus.  I saw the cable cars going up and down (have to look closely).

And this is our BnB for the next couple of nights.  It’s located behind a Thai spa.  The owner is Thai, obviously, and it’s probably one of the nicest we’ve stayed in.

By the way, in Italy we have one daughter and her family (Shelly) touring around, and a granddaughter from another family (Heather) is landing in Rome today to tour with a student group.  We’ll be back in Italia on Saturday, so we will all be in the same country at the same time, but nowhere near each other!

Tonight we just went to a spot in this little town to grab some dinner.  Of course we could eat outside as it was still warm enough.  This is the view from the sidewalk:

Until tomorrow…
